These 3 Books Can Change Your Life!

Growing up as a child, my most dreaded activity was books! I would much rather be outside exercising, playing soccer or cycling… Little did I know at the time but mainly, not because I didn’t value reading but because I was a slow reader. Add to that a vivid imagination so each page I would read is accompanied with my reimagining the scenario and building my own stories until I jolt myself out to focus and read some more.

Spending an hour only to notice, I had barely read a few pages, set in some frustration that, as a child to stop reading seemed to be a better solution.

Then as I got older, off course I started finding ways and make ample time to read books and the first book that rekindle my reading spirit was a fiction: Eaters of the Dead - Michael Crichton which inspired the movie The 13th Warrior with Antonio Banderas.

Followed by my favorite book of all times The Assault - Harry Mulisch. The latter is a novel that I have read numerous times because it speaks to how life leads us along paths that, during the events we don’t know “why” only to discover later in due course. Both novels were page turners to me, the kind I couldn’t put down and I was converted.

Today, and over the past year I have devoured 140 books in a combination of full reads and shorts because I have discovered the magic of audio books and although I strongly recommend the first two books I mentioned, the 3 books that have the power to change your life are here listed below.

I have audio “read” them and applied their messages and I use the learnings in my coaching with clients as well and I am certain that they will provide you with lots of insight to get you to TAKE ACTION

I always speak about motivating and driving you to take action. The only way towards growth is through change and that comes through action. How to Make Sh*t Happen is a great book because it highlights how everything boils down to decision making. I have coached quite a few people who think they are challenged when it comes to making decisions and that they constantly make bad choices. If that remotely sounds like you then this book is a great read. It will clarify the idea behind the locus of control; whether you believe you are responsible for your actions or the world is happening to you just as well as what is the connection between mind and body and vice versa. Grab yourself a copy or download the audio. TAKE ACTION!

The 5 Second Rule

5 - 4 - 3 - 2 - 1 : Take Action! This is another book that has the power to change your life. I know it because it changed that of numerous clients that I have coached over the past few years. A simple trick that re-sets your brain and gets you ready, motivated and in the mood to do things that otherwise would be difficult such as getting up earlier in the morning; or putting on your sports clothes to exercise. The 5 second rule blocks out all the excuses you put yourself and fills you with power and courage. Grab a copy, download the audio and your on your way to understand anxiety, beat procrastination and build confidence to TAKE ACTION!

Don't Feed The Monkey Mind

Over the years, I have learned that you have no way of controlling what happens TO YOU but you can control HOW YOU react. This book is awesome, if anything only by its title. When you frame the thoughts that you noodle in your head as feeding the monkey mind then you have some more perspective on what is anxiety, where does the stress come from and how is it that a 5 minute event, or a 2 liner email can set you off and cause you to have a full bad day? The answer is simply because often you are feeding the monkey mind.

In this book, you will understand how to change your behavior towards events and gain perspective on how your mind sees “threats” as much larger that they actually are. It’s primal, the brain is made that way to help keep us safe. In a sense Don’t Feed the Monkey Mind, helps you understand the “boogieman” - i.e. anxiety, fears etc, and thus removing the power they have over you. Now the ball is in your court: TAKE ACTION!

I have thoroughly enjoyed these books and they have had a positive effect for me personally and were very useful for my practice as well.
