5 Quotes that Will Motivate You!

A quote is nothing more than a look good poster on some boss’s wall as a means of self-actualization; unless you actually apply what the quote is telling you!

Motivation comes with action; therefore you can’t wait for the time to be right, the stars to be aligned, for your mood to be perfect or the rain to stop.

You must TAKE ACTION. Starting is always the most difficult part of … well anything. Getting out of bed is difficult, but once you're out, you go on with your day. Going to the gym is difficult but once you start that warm up, your body sends the right signals to your brain and then you're ready. Starting a business or having a serious conversation with your boss or with your reports is difficult but once you utter the first words, it’s a world lifted off your shoulders.

And because I know that many of you out there seek that little spark to get them on the move, Here are 5, carefully selected quotes that will kick start you to TAKE ACTION.

**

Fail early, fail often, but always fail forward

** John C. Maxwell

A quote that has made many headlines recently and has been used and abused by many appropriating it to themselves.

Fail Fast has also become a Silicon Valley mantra, and perhaps it’s been miss-used and misunderstood. The idea off course is not to glorify failure, but rather clarify it as a necessary precursor to success. Fearing failure paralyzes many and hence why it’s been put at the forefront. Thomas Edison perhaps was the pioneer of this dictum. When Edison was ridiculed for having failed 10,000 times he just said that in fact he had found 10,000 ways that didn’t work! Success is about your mindset and how fast you can shift from bad news to re-set, learn and apply to pivot and build on your next steps towards success which brings us to our second quote.

**

Success is stumbling from failure to failure with no loss of enthusiasm

** Winston Churchill

It is off course disheartening to fail but I have learned that, if there is anything to worry about or fear, it’s actually success! Once you’re successful, it’s the effort and stamina required to keep moving that is more difficult than failing. In both cases the key element is to keep moving and stay consistent and you will get to that turn around moment, provided off course you TAKE ACTION.

**

Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity

** Seneca

If Seneca is not on your list of favorite stoic philosophers then stop everything you are doing and research him, download books and get acquainted with him and then ponder a little about this quote; especially if you often catch yourself looking at other people (and their success) and think “They are so lucky”.

There is no such thing as luck.

There’s hard work, there’s preparation, there’s readiness to take action and capture opportunities.

Start preparing now, learn, practice, apply and I guarantee that you will get “lucky”.

**

Done is better than perfect

** Sheryl Sandberg

This quote by Sheryl Sandberg has become a major pillar in my coaching and in my way of life and I believe it should be in yours too. Done is better than perfect because as you may be chasing “perfection”, other people are out there doing your dream! Have you ever done something so well that you felt it was indeed perfect, only to revisit it sometime in the future and think “meh” - that’s simply because perfection is a myth and perfection is relative. TAKE ACTION, you can always fine tune things as you go along.

**

If you want to take the island, burn your boats

** Julius Caesar

Another of my all-time favorites; used numerous times by Tony Robbins and inspiring Tarek Bin Ziyad in his conquest of Spain after ordering the boats to be burned, “My Dear Brothers, the enemy is in front of you, and the sea behind” giving warriors no choice but victory or peril, while sending a message of fearlessness to the enemy.

This is another mantra, I encourage you to follow.

No matter how small or big, do not delay, do not fear failure, do it: TAKE ACTION!
